Content reviewed by Dr. Laporte, Medical Director, Morgentaler ClinicAbortion is a safe and simple procedure. The doctor uses a dilation and aspiration technique that takes 5 to 10 minutes. All our doctors are specially trained to perform instrumental abortions, and a nurse will accompany you throughout the procedure. Medications are offered for optimal comfort. Although the procedure is quick, your visit to the clinic will take about 3 hours.
If you are 14 weeks pregnant or more, the procedure may take 2 days: laminar rods will need to be inserted the day before the procedure to ensure a gentle dilation of the cervix.

Information about your appointment
Plan to be at the clinic for approximately 3 hours. It is preferable, but not required, to be accompanied by someone for the return home.
Do not eat or drink for 2 hours before your appointment
The relaxing and pain-relief medications offered during the abortion may affect you for a certain time afterward.
For 24h: do not drive, do not consume drugs or alcohol, favor calm activities, and avoid activities requiring concentration or judgment such as supervising young children, using dangerous tools or equipment, taking school exams, and signing important documents.
Avoid activities requiring sustained vigilance for 24h after the abortion.
Bring your health insurance card or your IFHP document. Photo ID will be required at reception.
