In 1988, the Supreme Court of Canada finally struck down the law criminalizing abortion, giving women a free choice. Quebec Superior Court ruling allows women to receive abortions in privately-run clinics free of charge. Quebec passes a law to create a 50 m zone around abortion facilities that prohibits anti-choice demonstrations.
